I’m moving. Usually, 4th of July, I’m all about finding a great fireworks show and going and taking a picnic or eating funnel cakes or what have you. This year, I have a feeling I’ll be laying prone on the carpet, surrounded by cardboard boxes, hoping no one makes me stand upright or leave my air conditioned house.

Staying the heck home. lol Miss Tesla and I will be going to The Book of Mormon on the 6th (tickets bought long before I got fired) and we otherwise can’t afford to do anything.
I think we’re just going to have some Mike’s and play Overwatch?

Not much. Maybe try to ignore the fireworks for the next week and a bit.

Some friends and I are going to hang out, supposedly to listen to Hamilton and watch Captain America, but I suspect those things might not happen and it’ll just be a lot of eating. Either way, it’s been a while since I had fun plans on the 4th - the last good one was a few years back, living in the UK, when my also American flatmate and I did our best to approximate an indoor barbecue, and did an Air Force One/Con Air double feature.

TBH, probably not much. One son has a 7/1 birthday, so we always celebrated that, but he's across the country these days...

Hoping to get some BBQ. The restaurants seem to be less crowded because a bunch of people go to the fireworks shows, so I get to eat and avoid traffic. Win win.

Near my apartment, I’ve been hearing fireworks since last week, although not as much this week so maybe they did their tests and are saving the rest for Monday.

We wanted to do some hiking & camping at a state park about 3 hours from home, but the parks service is warning everyone about the massive crowds this weekend. They saw 94,000 visitors for Memorial Day weekend so I’m willing to bet they’ll get more this time. When they run out of parking spots, they close the park until some open up. Hard to enjoy getting out into nature with that many people around. That and the campgrounds in the area are booked up. So we’ll probably save that for another time and keep looking for something to do. Just want to get the hell out of town for a couple/few days. Hope everyone in the Cross Thread has a safe & fun Independence Day (for those who celebrate it).

Pssshhh posh Canada Day/Dominion Day is tomorrow! Where Canadians embrace all our great stereotypes and unleash a jingoistic pride that would make even American’s blush. Also booze, lots and lots of booze.

Either I am swimming at the neighbor’s house, or I’m probably headed to watch fireworks. I’d rather not be headed to watch fireworks. The weather is supposed to be 100 on that day, which is actually a slight cool down.

Wirk, wirk, wirk. There’ll be a display within short walking distance or might just view from our roof with young lad if he wants. Might try to take pictures of the fireworks with my buddy's decent borrowed camera.

Double feature at the drive-in and probably fireworks.
Still trying to pick which to watch. Finding Dory and The BFG showing on one screen, ID: Resurgance and the new Tarzan flick showing on the other.

It’s a podcast, it’s filthy and hilarious. Long story short, a guy’s dad asked him to read over his book he’s writing and it turns out to be a really bad erotica. So he reads it to his friends.

I’m going with some friends. They’re leaning toward Resurgance and Tarzan. Thankfully there is a beer garden at the drive-in. I’ll have to convince one of them to drive. I don’t know if I could sit through Resurgance without at least a buzz. Tarzan looks interesting though.
I was actually surprised that there was no story about The Legend of Tatzan on io9. I was gritting my teeth, wating for Edgar Rice Burroughs to receive the same treatment as Rudyard Kipling did, when the new Jungle Book film was released earlier this year.

I am protecting the homestead as per my usual. Unfortunately, I don’t know how long the little shits’ fireworks will last and how safe it will be to leave the apartment every morning, what with the little darlings being out of school and their parents off at work or not giving a damn. I don’t think we’ll be getting any more rain this weekend and I often have incredibly stupid neighbors. And since it is The South, nobody enforces fireworks laws until something catches fire. Because right to bear incendiary devices while drunk and/or young and unsupervised is apparently one of those god-given inalienable something or others.

Like they’d fucking believe me. I once tried to explain to a man grilling under dry trees how it doesn’t matter the ground is still damp from the last rain because sparks go
up
. I got nothin’. And then I watched him shoot lighter fluid onto an already existing fire so it shot up four feet higher.

Precisely. Bad thing is, the building
right next to mine
was burned out a few months ago by someone being careless in the kitchen and I was hoping people would at least be on alert for a little while after. But then I ran into a neighbor who had said at the time he hoped they would be more careful too, and he asked me if I would be grilling on the Fourth. I pointed to the tiny covered walkway and the tree-covered tiny yard and said, “and where would be safe to do that?” There is literally nowhere in my apartment complex to grill - except maybe the middle of the parking lot - that isn’t a fire code violation. Doesn’t stop any of these idiots. It’s like they have no capacity to see how their stupid thoughtless shit can cause just as much damage as anyone else’s stupid thoughtless shit.

Independence Day: Resurgance was ridiculously awful. Cliche upon cliche, with terrible acting and implausible science, that broke more “Laws” than Captain America’s shield.
Thanks to a few libations at the beer garden, we were able to laugh out way through the ID:R... or “I dur” (as we started referring to it). We had a better time making fun of the film than actually watching it.
The Legend of Tarzan was much better, better that the io9 review would have you believe.
http://io9.gizmodo.com/movie-review-t…
Tarzan isn’t as invincible or as enigmatic as the review claimed. He is a strong force of nature, but not indomitable, without a little help.
Christoph Waltz plays Christoph Waltz very well. Samuel L. Jackson has a bigger part in the film than the trailers imply. He is great when the snarky comments are flying, but drags a little when he turns introspective.
Margot Robbie’s Jane is no shrinking violet or damsel in distress. Yes she is take hostage, but she doesn’t wait to be save. She is more like Indian Jones’ Marion Ravenwood, than King Kong’s Ann Darrow.
The Legend of Tarzan isn’t a perfect film, but it is a great summer movie, to enjoy with some drinks and friends.
